It Only Took Me 7 Years

A lot happens in seven years:

  • Three jobs
  • Four homes

  • The start and end of a long-term relationship

  • Renewed love of crocheting

  • New friendships

  • Loved ones passing away

  • Adopting my first cat

  • And…creating my first oracle deck!

In the spring of 2019 I got the idea for the Nature Oracle. It’s gone through a number of iterations and an even greater number of stops and restarts. Finally, seven years later, it’s complete!

Like a curse, each time I decided to buckle down and get it done, some major, out-of-my-control life event would crop up and throw me off course. At times I never thought I’d finish, and I even debated ditching the project a few times, but something about it stayed with me. To avoid triggering future disaster, I eventually decided to approach the project in a stealthy manner by devoting one or two times each week to working on the cards with no expectation of how much I would accomplish in each session; the goal was simply to put in the time and make the effort. Also realizing how easy it is to get distracted at home, I brought my project to the local library to help me focus my attention. And it worked!

So now, (only!) seven years later, the Nature Oracle is complete. And I couldn’t be more delighted with how it turned out. If you’re interested in seeing it for yourself, I invite you to check it out here: https://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/nature-oracle

Thanks for sharing this accomplishment with me! I already have ideas for future decks that are percolating in the background and taking shape in my journal. With luck they won’t take me quite as long ;)
